The company's consolidated operating ratio stood at 103.1%, reflecting operating expenses exceeding revenues.

PAMT's Management Commentary

President Lance Stewart highlighted improving freight market conditions, supported by ongoing industry capacity reductions amid heightened enforcement and evolving regulatory developments.

These developments helped the company improve its rate per mile by 11% sequentially and 6% year over year. Management viewed the pricing improvement as progress toward recovering inflation-driven cost increases experienced over the past four years.

However, Stewart acknowledged that cumulative cost increases continued to outpace pricing improvements. Management expressed confidence that ongoing initiatives and improving market conditions could support stronger financial performance.

Factors Influencing PAMT's Quarterly Results

Higher fuel expenses, increased driver-related costs and lower gains from used equipment sales offset improvements in customer pricing.

Operating supplies and expenses increased to $41.2 million from $29.1 million, while salaries, wages and benefits rose to $41.8 million from $39.7 million.

The company attributed higher net fuel costs primarily to the lag between increases in diesel prices and corresponding customer fuel surcharge adjustments, which typically occur at least one week later.

Gains on asset dispositions declined sharply to $0.3 million from $4 million, reducing the contribution from equipment sales.

Interest expenses increased to $4.9 million from $4.5 million. Additionally, the company recorded a non-operating expense of $0.6 million, compared with non-operating income of $2.5 million a year earlier, further pressuring net results.

PAMT's Liquidity and Financial Position

As of Sept. 30, 2026, PAMT had available liquidity of $102 million, comprising cash, marketable equity securities and unused borrowing capacity. Cash and cash equivalents declined to $5.4 million from $35.2 million at 2025-end.

Total assets declined to $645.5 million from $697.9 million as of Dec. 31, 2025.

Total outstanding debt declined $10.7 million from year-end 2025 to $323.1 million. Stockholders' equity declined to $195 million from $210.5 million.

The company used $1 million in operating cash during the quarter and $17.7 million during the first nine months of 2026.

Although debt reduction provided some balance-sheet support, continued operating cash outflows and persistent losses underscored the importance of improving profitability and cash generation.
